We celebrate the dedication and hard work of our riders, horses, and trainers, recognizing their accomplishments in various divisions and levels of competition.

Rider Medal Program

WDAAZ is proud to offer a Rider Medal Program for rider achievements based on scores received at WDAAZ recognized shows. These awards are based on the rider, not the horse, so it can be achieved riding several different horses.

To qualify, you must be a current member of WDAAZ and WDAA at the time of submission for the medal as well as the time scores were earned.

Rider Medal Levels

Bronze Medal: 2 scores from Intro along with 3 scores from Basic or 5 scores from Basic
Silver Medal: 2 scores from Level 1 along with 3 scores from Level 2
Gold Medal: 2 scores from Level 3 and 3 scores from Level 4
Platinum Medal: 5 scores from Level 5 (If/when WDAA adds a Level 6, then it will be 2 scores from Level 5 and 3 scores from Level 6)

When 3 different Medals have been achieved, rider may be eligible for a Buckle.

All eligible scores must be 65+ from at least 2 different WDAA judges. Scores must be earned from WDAAZ hosted live and/or virtual shows.
Medals may be earned on multiple horses, earned out of turn, and earned over multiple years.
Rider must keep track of tests and submit them together to WDAAZ when you apply for the medal. Submit one application per medal level.
Score cards from 2026 and later qualify.

How to apply for the WDAAZ Rider Medal

Verify membership with WDAAZ & WDAA at the time you submit your medal application.
Confirm eligibility of scores and ensure scores include complete face sheets and were earned while being an active member of WDAAZ & WDAA.
Send all 5 test face sheets at the same time to WDAAZ (treasurer@gmail.com) along with your name, qualifying Medal, and phone number for contact. You will receive a call for payment of $35 processing fee.

There are two sets of awards:

Virtual shows
Live Shows

These awards are for the Western Dressage division only.

Must be a member in good standing of both WDAAZ and WDAA. Non-members may enter and show for test scores.

Categories:

− Amateur: Intro through Level 5

− Open: Intro through Level 5

− Junior: Overall

Level Championships may be earned for Intro, Basic, and Level 1-5. Virtual Requirements : Your 4 highest test scores (from 2 separate judges) will be averaged for a final score. Live Requirements : Your 6 highest scores (from 2 separate judges) will be averaged for a final score. Ties will be broken by total score in Collective Remarks.

Combined Level Championship awards may be earned for Virtual or Live events. This opportunity is given to encourage riders to "ride up a level".

Virtual requirements: You must ride in a least 2 of the 3 WDAAZ virtual shows. The 2 highest scores from your 2 consecutive levels (for a total of 4 scores, at least 2 from each level) will be used toward the Combined Level Championship. Your scores must be from at least 2 different judges to qualify. A maximum of 3 scores per show will be applied, no more than 2 scores from each level. For example, you ride 2 Intro and 2 Basic tests for one show. The 3 highest scores from your 4 tests will be applied towards the Combined Level Championship. Another example is you ride 3 Intro tests and 2 Basic for a show. Only 2 of the Intro tests will be eligible for use towards the Championship.

High Point for each virtual show will be awarded to the single highest score Junior or Amateur winner.

Live requirements: You must ride in at least 3 of the 5 WDAAZ live shows. The 2 highest scores from your 2 consecutive levels (for a total of 6 scores, at least 2 from each level) will be used towards the Combined Level Championship. Your scores must be from at least 2 different judges to qualify. A maximum of 3 scores per show will be applied, no more than 2 scores from each level. For example, you ride 2 Intro and 2 Basic tests for one show. The 3 highest scores from your 4 tests will be applied towards the Combined Level Championship. Another example is that you ride 3 Intro tests and 2 Basic for a show. Only 2 of the Intro tests will be eligible for use towards the Championship.

High Point for each live show will be awarded per level, whether Junior, Amateur or Open.

There must be at least 2 qualified riders in a division or a score average of 65% or over to award a buckle
